This month our open day hosts the secret life of plants told through puppetry: a tufted grass, an Adder’s Tongue Fern and the Walthamstow Yellow Cress tell their stories through ballads, commentary and puppetry. The Mysteries in a Box is a Walthamstow Mysteries production that puts urban plants on the stage, and we’re excited that one of the plants featured is the Yellow Cress, which has a special story including our own chapter; read more about it in our grower’s blog.
Also join in our seasonal blitz volunteer morning, learn the art of saving seeds, take part in the forest school for children of all ages, or just enjoy good coffee and cake and a tour of this beautiful 12 acre site.
Seasonal Blitz morning: our weeekend volunteering opportunity, join us at 9.45 for a 10am-1pm session. We advise sturdy shoes and you are welcome to stay for the Hawkwood monthly Open Day afterwards. Open Day (12-4pm)
All afternoon (12 – 4) Coffee, cake and delicious locally grown lunch served. Our farm stall has Hawkwood produce, jams, pickles and vinegars. We also have logs for sale on a self-service basis (£20 for wheelbarrow full, £50 per tonne dumpy sack plus deposit for sack, or bring your own).
12.30pm Seed saving workshop – learn some simple techniques for saving seed for next year’s growing.
2pm The Mysteries in a Box puppet theatre production. Suitable for adults and children over 7, wrap up warm! Advance booking recommended: free tickets are on eventbrite here.
3pm Site tour
12-3pm Hawkwood Woodland School – a drop-in family learning session offering outdoor play and holistic learning for children and families. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Please email londonforestschool[at]gmail.com with the name and age of your children if you plan to attend, so we have an idea of numbers. There is no charge for this session.
