Sunday 8 December 2024, 12pm – 4pm
Hawkwood Nursery, 115 Hawkwood Cres, London E4 7UH
This December, join us for our Mid Winter Fayre where we’ll be all about sharing ahead of the festive season. For the first time in a long while, we are bringing back our Food Swap shop! This is a chance for you to bring in your homemade produce and swap them for goodies others have brought in. Further details on how this works can be found at the bottom of the page.
We’ll have plenty of our usual seasonal delights on offer, perfect for brightening up these shorter days. Browse our fully stocked farmstall, enjoy a seasonal and freshly prepared lunch and indulge in some baked goods. Expect warming refreshments, think hot chocolate, mulled apple juice, and our Hawkwood beer brews.
We’re really excited about some Community Spaces too. Join us in and around our Woodland Classroom for some seed-saving together, fireside food culture stories and winter crafts displayed by some of the young people that regularly visit Hawkwood.
Celebrate our past year with us with a round-up of 2024 at OrganicLea and participate in a wreath-making workshop. Spaces are limited for the wreath-making workshop, so please book your tickets here.

The Food Swap
What you can bring
Please bring wholesome, naturally produced, vegetarian food. It could be vegetables you’ve grown, or something you’ve made such as jam, bread, cakes, or pickles. We’re excluding meat for food safety reasons, and in order to make it accessible to as many people as possible. If you need a reminder for making food safely see the food hygiene guidance here.
Please bring your food already packaged in swappable-size portions, and provide some information about it on a label or card, e.g. a list of the ingredients or where it was grown. If you have any questions about what you are planning to bring, please get in touch with us.
On the day
There will be a food swap registration desk on site. You can bring your produce to the registration desk any time from 12pm on 8 December, so you can then make the most of the day’s activities, browse the stalls and exhibition or have something to eat.
Come back for the swap itself which will take place at 2pm. You get to choose something you like and someone else gets to enjoy the food you’ve brought along! If you can’t be here at 2pm for the swap you are still welcome to donate produce earlier in the day, but it will be more fun to take part in the swap itself!
Directions to our Hawkwood site including bus, rail and river-cycle routes are here
