Plant and compost sales, delicious food, and more!
Join us for our next open day, on Sunday 26th May 12 pm – 4 pm.
We’ll have all you need to give your growing season a boost – come and get seedlings, plug plants, compost, and tips to help get your food garden flourishing over the coming months.
We will also have delicious seasonal fare on offer, plus a fully stocked farm stall! The timetable and further details for the day are below.
Our open day is our main outlet for selling plants this year as we won’t be selling them online, so this is the place to go if you want to buy plants from us. We will, however, be selling our compost online, so if you can’t make it to our open day and would like to purchase compost from us to pick up on site, you can do so here.
Timetable for the day
The site will be open from 12 pm to 4 pm.
We’ll be inviting visitors to make a suggested donation of a few ££ when they come to help cover the costs of running the open days. Although we can take card payments, we love cash if you can bring it.
Farm stall: Open all day. Stocked with compost, organic seasonal produce (including our signature mixed salad!), OrganicLea merchandise, as well as solidarity goods from further afield.
Plant stall: Open from 12 pm to 3 pm. Stocked with salad plugs and seedlings of our regular favourites – tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, kale, peppers, chard, sweetcorn, beans… as well as fruit and herbs and plenty of advice too. And all grown in our very own peat-free potting compost mix. We won’t be selling any plant boxes online this year so this is the place to go if you want to buy plants from us!
We’ll also have some pollinator-friendly flowering plants to give away, to mark our new WalthamWild biodiversity action project.
Refreshments: Available all day – hot drinks and delicious vegan cake.
Lunch: Served from 12.30 pm – 2.30 pm. Pete (from @curryclubldn) will be in the kitchen cooking up warm meals made with organic produce. Freshly prepared falafel wraps will be available to purchase (cash preferred) from a local Palestinian enterprise called Shawki Falafel who you can regularly find at the St. James Street end of Walthamstow Market.
Taproom bar: Open all day. Serving our home-brewed delights!
Ros Fowler’s ‘All is Leaf’ screening: Running from 1 pm – 2 pm in the woodland classroom. We will be screening Rosalind Fowler’s plant journey film ‘All is Leaf’ which was made around a series of communal gatherings and artist-led journeys to encounter plants at Hawkwood in Summer 2019. This 14-minute film will be followed by a Q&A with Rosalind. For more on the film see: https://www.rosalindfowler.co.uk/home/all-is-leaf-so-to-amplify-the-wonder/
Site tour: Running from 2 pm – 3 pm. Join us for a walk around Hawkwood to see what we’re growing and learn more about OrganicLea’s work.
Directions to our Hawkwood site including bus, rail, and river-cycle routes are here. Limited parking is available at the site.
