Saturday 12 October, 11am-3pm
Join OrganicLea, the Hornbeam and other local organisations for the annual Apple Day celebration this Saturday at Vestry House Museum in Walthamstow, a day that’s been marked since the first Apple Day in 1990 and is all about sharing and enjoying all the little-known and delicious varieties of apple grown in the UK, plus finding out more about the orchards that grew them. With apple display and identifications of your unknown fruit, come and taste and buy apples, apple trees, apple juice, cider and cake, plus do apple bobbing, use the vintage apple press to make juice, and try your luck in the longest peel competition.
If anyone has apples unpicked that they want used, we have a team of scrumpers who could come and pick in the next few weeks and then we’ll use the apples to make juice and cider vinegar. Get in touch at info@organiclea.org.uk. Pimp Hall Nature Reserve are also celebrating Apple Day later this month, on 20 October. Details here.
