The April open day is focused on supporting you to grow! We have compost and pollinator plants to give away, our first big plant sale of the season, and a workshop on looking after your plants. And we’re excited to welcome the Feel Good Cafe to our site, as well as serving up wine and beer made with our rhubarb!
Sunday 30 April, Hawkwood Nursery
Seasonal Blitz morning: our weekend volunteering opportunity, join us at 9.45 for a 10am-1pm session. We advise sturdy shoes and you are welcome to stay for the Hawkwood monthly Open Day afterwards. This month we’ll be focusing on potting on of seedlings.
Open Day (12-4pm)
All afternoon (12 – 4) The Feel Good Cafe will be offering coffee, cake and delicious locally grown lunch, our bar will be serving sparkling rhubarb wine and rhubarb beer, our farm stall has Hawkwood produce including rhubarb and asparagus, jams, pickles, vinegars and herbal teas for sale.
All afternoon (12-4) Plant stall with a wide range of vegetable, herb, salad, flower and fruit plants. Compost giveaway – bring your own sacks to take away free greenwaste compost (amount per household generous but not unlimited!). We also have pollinator plants and bird boxes to give away.
2pm Workshop on looking after your subtropical plants – learn how to get your sweetcorn, squash and other seedlings planted and established well to ensure a good harvest
3pm Site tour – enjoy this site’s spring buddings, and find out more about our plans for refurbishment
12-3pm PlayfulLea Forest School – a drop-in family learning session offering outdoor play and holistic learning for children and families. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Please email hello[at]playfullea.org.uk with the name and age of your children if you plan to attend, so we have an idea of numbers. There is no charge for this session.
