A workers' cooperative growing food on London's edge in the Lea Valley

Plant and Compost Sales

We sell plants, compost and cut flowers produced at our Hawkwood Nursery site.

Plants Raised at Hawkwood

We grow all the plants ourselves. Work is carried out by a team of growers including members of our workers’ cooperative and lots of local volunteers who support the project’s aim to see more food growing in London.  We aim to raise plants that are strong and healthy, ready to compete with weed seedlings and garden pests!  All plants are raised from seeds that are certified organic.

What and When?

Our main season plants are available from April to June. We have popular favourites such as tomatoes, squash, courgettes and more on sale – plants that are hard to get started without a greenhouse.  To keep the garden growing throughout the colder months we produce winter plants in September.

How to Buy

2025 dates for our big Plant Sales will be confirmed soon – check back here. These take place at Hawkwood Nursery.

The Plant Sales Trolley will be available at the Hawkwood Farm Stall (open 10am-5pm Thursdays, 10am-4pm Fridays), throughout May and September.

We will also be selling plants at community events run by our partners in the Waltham Forest Food Growers’ Network. Please watch this space for more details or sign up to our newsletter.

Hand Made, Certified Organic, Peat Free Compost

Our compost is hand-mixed and bagged on our Hawkwood site by our production team with the support of learners and volunteers. It is 100% peat-free; certified organic by the Soil Association and the result of over 20 years of perfecting the recipe. We believe it to be the most sustainable and affordable compost available in Waltham Forest.

What and when?

We have three different types of hand-mixed compost available: seed, potting-on and container compost, available in 10, 20 and 40 litre bags (approx). We also have green waste compost, Soil Association approved, in 40 litres.

How to Buy

Come along to our big plant sales to also stock up on compost.

Our Farmstall is restocked once a week but to ensure that we have what you require you can pre-order for collection on Fridays from Hawkwood Nursery –  Order here from our new online shop.

Alternatively, we offer compost for delivery in our electric van to the following post codes: E4, E10, E11, E10, E17, IG8 and IG9.  To make our deliveries as efficient as possible we are initially offering the following 2025 dates: Tuesday 25th March & 15th April.  Subsequent dates may be added once demand is assessed.
