Horticultural Trainer
Part time: 3 days per week- Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, with occasional week-ends plus additional unpaid coop responsibilities
Salary: £20,930 pro rata
Based at: Hawkwood Community Plant Nursery and will also work at outreach garden sites across Northeast London
2 year contract subject to a 3 month probation period.

Organiclea is seeking to recruit a horticultural training practitioner who will be part of a dedicated food production team, based at Hawkwood, our 12 acre market garden. This role will deliver practical horticultural training with a focus on food growing. We are looking for someone with demonstrable horticultural experience (especially food growing) and experience of delivering experiential learning in a range of settings.
This is a practical role requiring a blend of both accredited horticultural and life-long learning training skills. We are looking for someone who is passionate about the empowering role that food growing contributes to community life and resilience and who is able to communicate this to others.
This role is part of a 2 year Horticultural Training Programme, supported by the City Bridge Trust’s Growing Localities fund, which we will launch in March 2013. This programme will increase our capacity and the range of learning and progression routes pathways for marginalised individuals. This programme will work in partnership with other community sector organisations, horticulture employers and over 100 beneficiaries who will be part of this programme. Organiclea is seeking to recruit an Outreach Gardens Development Worker whose role will be to design and deliver a programme of support, training and mentoring to new community food growing projects. This role will: coordinate the creation of new community food growing sites; delivering training and skills development activities targeted at disadvantaged individuals; supporting existing community gardening projects to become sustainable; and building new partnerships within the community sector.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about the empowering role that food growing contributes to community life and resilience, and who is able to communicate this to others. You will join a team of two other outreach gardens workers, based in our Walthamstow office, and work on sites across Northeast London; around two thirds of the time allocated for this post will be dedicated to supporting food growing projects based in the borough of Newham.
Organiclea’s outreach gardens team exists to bring the benefits of local food growing projects to diverse and marginalised communities across Northeast London. We achieve this through working in partnership with a range of public and community sector organisations; offering a comprehensive service of training, project support and community garden creation. Past and current partners include social housing providers, the mental health sector, schools and children centres, homeless charities and sheltered accommodation providers.
