Hawkwood Open Day & Plant Sale
Sunday 25 May, 12-4pm
This month’s open day features a big plant sale, a compost giveaway and a special ‘all about Organiclea’ site tour, as well as a seasonal horticultural task, Dr Bike session and the Forest School. More details below and we hope to see you there!
Plant sale: find favourites such as tomatoes, peppers, beans and courgettes, as well as more unusual plants including the Walthamstow Yellowcress – now we’ve given it a safe haven at Hawkwood, we’re spreading it back out into the wider world!
(see the Grower’s blog for background story on this rare local type of watercress).
All our plants are hand raised in the glasshouse and then hardened off outside, strong and healthy ready to ward off pests and diseases. We’d like them to find homes in the ground!
Compost giveaway: as well as selling our own seed and potting compost mixes, and certified garden compost, we have also taken delivery of a huge mound of greenwaste compost from London Waste to give away. Come and help yourself – bring sacks or containers with you.
‘All about Organiclea’ – a site tour with a difference, as it includes information on Organiclea’s aims, what we do apart from growing, and how we organise ourselves as a cooperative – an opportunity to find out more about what goes on behind the vegetable beds! At 3pm
This month’s horticultural task is planting out – helping to get our young plants into the ground.
Dr Bike – long-term volunteer and bike mechanic Roger is running this session for free check-ups, maintenance advice and small repairs so bring your bike along for a health-check.
Forest School – activities and free play for children of all ages, 12-3pm (with a break for lunch). Children under 6 must be accompanied. Spaces are limited so please email liz@organiclea.org.uk
Lunch available to purchase provided by the fantastic cooks at the Hornbeam Café using seasonal produce.
Drop in any time or stay for the day. Find directions to the site here.
